Early careers opportunities

What early careers opportunities does the V&A Offer?

We’re all about bringing together people from different backgrounds who can share their unique experiences, talent and skills to the V&A, the cultural sector and beyond.

There are many ways for you to get involved.

If you are under 25, visit our young people programmes for links to careers advice and information about working in the cultural sector.

Apprenticeships

Apprenticeships are perfect for people just starting their career or anyone looking to switch things up and try something new in their careers.

Apprenticeships take between 1 and 4 years to complete.

Benefits

As an apprentice, you will:

  • work along people at the top of their field
  • receive support and training in your specific role
  • work towards a nationally recognised qualification
  • earn a salary
  • have access to V&A employee benefits

Qualifications

You do not need a higher education qualification to apply for an apprenticeship.

If you do have a higher educational qualification, it cannot be at the same level or higher in the subject of the apprenticeship.

How to apply

You must be at least 16 years old when you enrol. There is no upper age limit.

Our apprenticeship vacancies are dependent on availability not time of year.

Search for apprenticeship vacancies on our vacancies page.

Equal opportunities

We strive to ensure that opportunities to work and develop are open to all. Our applications are treated equally, regardless of:

  • age
  • disability
  • gender identity or gender expression
  • race
  • ethnicity
  • religion or belief
  • sex
  • sexual orientation
  • any other protected characteristic

Some groups are currently under-represented in our workforce and the cultural sector as a whole. We particularly welcome applications from disabled people and those who identify as being from a Black, Asian and minority ethnic background and although we have a good gender balance – in certain departments, such as Technology, we encourage female applicants and, in our Exhibitions, or Development teams, we encourage male applicants.

Internships

Our internships are paid opportunities that offer hands-on experience and professional growth in your chosen field.

Internships can apply to students, recent graduates, fellows, and academics from all kinds of educational institutions, as well as people on secondment from other organisations.

Check out our current internship openings on our vacancies page.

Work experience

Our work experience weeks are for young adults aged 16–19 years who want to explore career options at the V&A and the cultural sector.

To submit an expression of interest for a future work experience week, complete this form.

In the form:

  • share any specific areas of interest
  • tell us why you love the V&A
  • feel free to be creative!

Areas of interest could include: how we create exhibitions, take care of objects or if you'd like to work in Retail, Technology, Finance, or our galleries.
