Demystifying Museum Careers: The role of the Registrar photo
Join us for the seventh instalment of the ‘Demystifying Museum Careers’ webinar series. Deputy Head Registrar Valerie Kohler-Regel and Assistant Registrar Lucy Gray and will be asking the question ‘What is a Registrar?’, sharing behind the scenes insights into the extensive Loans Programme at the V&A and how the V&A makes its collections more widely available to the public.

You will hear about how varied a day in the life of a registrar can be, ranging from reviewing venue security and insurance policies, to arranging transport and negotiating how V&A objects are displayed. Lucy and Valerie will also be sharing useful advice on how to get into the profession and key resources so you can find out more.

Valerie Kohler-Regel, Deputy Head Registrar in the Loans Section within the Exhibitions & Loans Department at the V&A, manages the team’s two Assistant Registrars and has the overall operational responsibility for the smooth delivery of the short-term loans out programme to external exhibitions.

Lucy Gray, Assistant Registrar in the Loans Section within the Exhibitions & Loans Department at the V&A, manages short loans of V&A objects to external exhibitions at both national and international venues, negotiating with borrowers regarding display requirements, and working closely with V&A curators, conservators, and technicians to co-ordinate the arrangements required for each loan project.
