Keep Watching: Kyle McDonald’s 'Exhausting a Crowd' photo
Join William Seung, Assistant Curator of Design and Digital, as he discusses surveillance culture, spectatorship, and performativity in the virtual and physical spheres.

Over the course of three days in 1974, artist Georges Perec recorded everyday occurrences in the Place Saint-Sulpice, from buses to baguettes. Collating his written observations, Perec’s book An Attempt at Exhausting a Place in Paris (1974) explores what happens when nothing happens. Bringing Perec’s work into the 21st century, Kyle McDonald’s Exhausting a Crowd (2015) completely describes the events of 12 hours in London’s busy Picadilly Circus, through crowd-sourced comments and CCTV-like video footage.
