CollectionThe V&A StoryThis history of the V&A is a story like no other. From its early beginnings as a Museum of Manufactures in 1852, to the foundation stone laid by Queen Victoria in 1899, to today's state-of-the-art galleries, the museum has constantly evolved in its collecting and public interpretation of art and design. Its collections span 5,000 years of human creativity in virtually every medium, housed in one of the finest groups of Victorian and modern buildings in Britain.

CollectionDesign 1900 – NowDesign 1900 – Now showcases 250 objects from the V&A's collections of 20th- and 21st-century art and design displayed across two galleries. The diverse and often surprising collection invites us to explore and interrogate every element of the designed world, from the familiar and everyday, such as the first Apple iPhone from the 2000s and early Tupperware from the 1960s, to the political and challenging, such as a series of Benetton posters from the early 1990s and a pair of Adidas trainers made from salvaged illegal fishing nets from 2015.
