This series of conversations will present opportunities to get involved in the debates around decolonisation, as it confronts museums, archives, art practice and the academic discipline of ‘history’ of art/design/crafts/decorative art.
Professor-Dr Gus Casely-Hayford and Professor-Dr Paul Goodwin are currently spearheading challenges to cultural policies and academic paradigms through teaching, curation, collection, archiving and creative practices. The V&A is currently undergoing a major transformation, with the opening of two new free cultural destinations at V&A East: V&A East Storehouse and V&A East Museum. Research Centre for Transnational Art, Identity and Nation (TrAIN) is a leading research centre at the University of the Arts London (UAL), that over the last 20 years has pioneered the development of transnationalism as a decolonial strategy for visual culture history and art practice, often working in partnership with institutions such as Tate, Whitechapel Gallery and Iniva.
This conversation series aim to foster a friendly and practical environment for exchanging and learning new ideas. We welcome not only staff and students from both institutions who have been at the core of transforming practice in the direction of a fairer society, but also anybody who is curious and interested in the future paths being explored by organisations like the V&A Research Institute (VARI) and UAL.
