Mary Shelley's novel 'Frankenstein or the modern Prometheus' was first published 200 years ago; by 1826, no less than fifteen different versions had been performed on stages in England and France, and the F-word had become shorthand for assorted public anxieties about 'progress'. In conjunction with his new publication, 'Frankenstein: The First Two Hundred Years', join award-winning broadcaster and authority on gothic fiction Christopher Frayling for a look at the history of this character as seen through visual culture.
