Our workshops revolve around the design thinking process: exploring the museum collection through the lens of critical and creative thinking and problem solving. They support the National Curriculum at KS2, 3, 4 & 5 and complement study at GCSE and above. Each session can accommodate 1 class (maximum 32 students). We have 4 workshops to choose from for Primary and Secondary students and two timeslots to choose from: AM 10.30 - 12.00 or PM 13.00 - 14.30

Pattern, Shape & Me (KS1 & 2 - Ages 5 to 11 years)
This workshop explores pattern and shape within the Islamic Middle East Galleries, whilst looking at the cultural identities behind their design. The session focuses on the KS1 & 2 Maths curriculums, in particular Geometry, Art & Design and the PSHE curricula. This workshop includes a guided visit to the Islamic Middle East gallery.

Design Thinking: Design Iteration and Prototyping (KS2 & 3 - Ages 7 to 14 years)
This workshop lays out a design thinking process of iteration and prototyping. Using the V&A’s Design 1900-Now collection as a starting point, students are guided to pick out key objects, movements and individuals in this hands-on workshop.

Fashion Conscience (KS3, 4 & 5 - Ages 11 to 18 years)
This workshop uses the V&A’s dynamic and diverse fashion collection, drawing on particular pieces to highlight techniques, key movements, and influential individuals. Students explore how the change in silhouettes (male & female) and textiles are seen as a radical statement against political and social norms.

Design for Change (KS4 & 5 - Ages 14 to 18 years)
In a world of big problems such as political uncertainty, economic instability, environmental crisis, an aging population, and conflict, design has a role to play in changing behaviours, creating social change and raising awareness to create a desirable and sustainable future. This workshop focuses on zeitgeist movements such as activism and social awareness, and students draw from the V&A 's collection of design as a catalyst for change.
