Course overview

Few periods of design inspire such interest and affection as Mid-Century Modern. The houses, interiors, furniture and decorative pieces of the 1950s and 1960s are infused with a spirit of warmth and playfulness, as well as being so innovative in their use of form, materials and colour. The endearing character of pioneering post-war design continues to make it fresh and relevant today, with many Mid-Century classics finding their way into contemporary interiors and current designers finding vibrant sources of inspiration in the work of the masterful innovators of the period.

Mid-Century Modern is a new weekend course led by writer, journalist and lecturer Dominic Bradbury, the author of the landmark book Mid-Century Modern Complete, published by Thames & Hudson. The course provides an introduction to the period and a comprehensive overview, with lectures covering a spectrum of design, including Houses & Interiors, Furniture, Glass & Ceramics, Textiles, Lighting, Graphics & Posters and Product Design. Eight sessions have been arranged over two days, providing a wide ranging and international overview of all things Mid-Century Modern.
