Joan Wakelin’s substantial archive is part of the Royal Photographic Society collection and archive held at the V&A. Her photographs, colour slides and personal papers relating to Greenham Common give us a unique perspective of everyday life at the peace camp, from someone who was neither a protestor nor a male press photographer.
In this workshop, you will explore Wakelin’s archive and her important friendship with peace protestor Hiroko Sumpter.
This event is facilitated by Emily Beswick, who catalogued Wakelin’s archive for the V&A.
There will be two sessions lasting about 1.5 hours: one starting at 15:30 and another at 18:30. Booking is required due to limited capacity.
A selection of Joan Wakelin's photographs of the Greenham Common Protest is on display in the Photography Centre, Room 101, until 18 May 2025.
