In the 2020 Beirut port explosion, thousands of buildings were destroyed or severely damaged, including many of historical significance. Join architect Annabel Karim Kassar and Nathalie Chahine, architect restorer, with V&A Keeper Christopher Turner for an exploration of how the reconstruction of Beirut is being achieved through a community-led planning approach with a focus on restoration and traditional craft skills, rather than a wholesale commercial redevelopment.
The five-meter high installation at the V&A exemplifies this restoration, showcasing the recreation of a triple-arched window typical of late Ottoman Empire house, which Karim Kassar and her studio AKK has recently restored and conserved.

This livestream is being held on Zoom, and all ticket holders will receive a link to view on the morning of the event. If you have not received your link by noon on the day of the event, please contact membershipevents@vam.ac.uk. The event will also be recorded and all ticket holders will receive a link to view within a week after the event.
