Dame Zandra Rhodes is a central figure in British fashion and textile design, and 2019 marks the 50th anniversary of the founding of her eponymous fashion house. Rhodes has designed clothes for a roster of famous clients – from Diana Ross to Princess Diana, Freddie Mercury to Cher, Bianca Jagger to Donna Summer – and is known for her eclectic creations inspired by Indian textiles, New York skylines, Pop Art, designs for opera and London's punk scene. An exhibition opens in October at the Fashion and Textile Museum to mark the occasion, accompanied by a lavishly illustrated book (Yale University Press).
