This souvenir of Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris was one of a series depicting famous architectural landmarks and views of the city.
In 'cameo-embossing', the flat background is coloured but not the raised central image. Manufacturers used this technique to imitate the appearance of a porcelain plaque in cheaper materials such as paper or card.
