Common Manifesto photo
Make, question and imagine with our Youth Collective, to help shape the possibilities of what a museum space can do and be for you and your communities.

We invite you to share your ideas of how museums may become spaces for social innovation, conversation, wellbeing and care.

On the day you'll also have the chance to work with Cuban artist and activist Tania Bruguera, and local based artists Lucía Barsegian, and ArtVomit Studio, to bring your ideas to life.

From hands-on making to critical discussions, to sharing food and exchanging ideas, whether you're interested in art, activism, or rethinking public spaces, this event is a chance to join the conversation and shape the future.

This back2back event will inform the Youth Collective’s current work around V&A East Storehouse and Museum, as spaces of inclusivity to promote creativity and access for all.

Programme

Building the Platform: A workshop on exhibitions and display
Challenge the  foundations of display in this plinth-making workshop led by ArtVomit Studios and Lucía Barsegian. Get hands-on with unconventional tools, recycled materials and fabrics to create bespoke platforms for personal and communal storytelling.

What have you wanted exhibitions to say?
How do you display your personal objects? What power do you give them?

Together we’ll rethink the traditional art plinth and question its embodiment of power and authority, transforming it into a structure that uplifts diverse narratives and perspectives.

Objects of Meaning: Curating our stories
From 15:00 join the V&A East Youth Collective to curate a dynamic display of their personal objects using your newly created plinths.

Work collaboratively to curate a gallery installation, considering questions of value, storytelling, and who gets to decide what is worthy of display.

What happens when we shift the focus of institutional display to the personal and the collective?

Breaking the Frame: Discussion and open mic
Close the day with Tania Bruguera and the Youth Collective through a collaborative writing session. Share your ambitions for a museum that prioritises inclusivity, community and care. Use prompts inspired by the day’s activities to help shape the core values and calls to action that will underpin V&A East's future manifesto.
