This two-day workshop will cover methods of lining works of art on paper with an emphasis on Japanese and Chinese techniques. Various Chinese, Japanese and Korean papers will be discussed and compared during the practical sessions. This will include basic backing removal and first lining on a Chinese scroll; lining of Chinese silk and lining of Japanese brocade.
You will also learn to line and flatten a Western poster using Japanese materials and techniques. The use of the kari bari board for drying and flattening will be central to both the practical work and the discussion.
