Take part in bringing a sakura-inspired washi paper installation to life in the museum!
In April each year, since the Edo period (1615-1868), local families, craftspeople, and intergenerational groups come together to create huge Hana Mikoshi or ‘flower shrines’ for the Mino Matsuri festival in Japan. Throughout August, join workshops at V&A South Kensington to decorate bamboo with 50,000 sakura-inspired Mino washi paper flowers, to re-create the drama of the Hana Mikoshi.
The shrine will be adapted into a sculptural seating installation for the V&A’s Daylit Gallery by London-based Hayatsu Architects. See your contribution to the dazzling display this September, as part of the London Design Festival.
