Jameel Prize: Poetry to Politics
Founded in 2009, the Jameel Prize celebrates contemporary art and design inspired by Islamic culture, and this, the sixth edition, is the first to concentrate on developments in design. The eight finalists of this year’s Jameel Prize hail from across the Middle East and South Asia, and their diverse practices span graphic design and fashion, typography and textiles, architecture and activism. In this talk, V&A exhibition curators Rachel Dedman and Tim Stanley explore how the richness of Islamic tradition is reflected in the quality and diversity of the design on show, in a way that stays true to 21st-century concerns.
