This Make it invites your family to make nature inspired paintings that tell your favorite stories inspired by nature and spring. Led by artist Simran Kaur Panesar, get inspired by the Great Mughals exhibition and the Museum’s collection to create your paintings.
Find your story, choose your landscape and the animals to add to your scene, on water colour paper. Use hand-made paints from India to paint your animal, apply gold paint and a touch of shiny gold leaf to decorate the background. Create a frame for your image made from patterns found in nature. Then finish your painting by sharing the story behind it.
Learn some new skills as a family through exploring painting styles from South-East Asia. Let your child take the lead but work together as a family to explore designing and creating.
You’ll discover how paintings were made for royalty and were a way of sharing history with others. You’ll come away with new skills to create colourful paintings that tell your favourite stories. You’ll also get to work with special paints and special brushes made in India from squirrel hairs and get to take your paintings home.
No squirrels were harmed in the making of any brushes!
No previous experience is necessary, just come along and join in.
All materials will be provided, all sourced sustainably.
Materials will be allocated to the children within your group. Adults will be working together with their children.
