Upstart: Creative Careers Festival 2022
Join fashion and textile designers Cynthia Asije and Elfreda Fakoya exploring the fashion scene in Nigeria. Chaired by Yemisi Mokuolu, the talk will be a conversation about cultural representation, environmental issues and challenges, as well as career turning points and advice on how to stay sustainable.

This free online event is aimed at 14-26 year olds and produced by the V&A Young People's Programmes team as part of Upstart Creative Careers Festival.
Cynthia Asije is a multi-award winning textile designer. She has a Certificate in Entrepreneurship from EDC Lagos, and a Non-Profit Leadership certificate from Lagos Business School. She was on the Ynaija Power list 2018 for Fashion and Style and 100 Africa's Next Start up by IFC-World Bank Group 2018.
Elfreda Fakoya is a Nigerian fashion designer and artist working between London and Lagos. With sustainability at the core of her practice, she creates her own circular system by using fabric waste from fashion projects to illustrate the human condition in her art works. She trained under Hussein Chalayan and Wales Bonner and gained her degree at Ravensbourne University and has shown her collections at Lagos Fashion Week and Arise Fashion Week. In 2020 she was awarded Arise's 30 under 30.
The event will be chaired by Yemisi Mokuolu, an award-winning independent producer and Creative Business consultant, Founder & CEO, Hatch Ideas Worldwide Ltd.
