When the sculpting geniuses Donatello and Michelangelo burst onto the scene in Renaissance Florence they took the world by storm. Not only did their sheer technical abilities surpass those of the ancients, they revolutionised and modernised the art form and the meaning of sculpture during an age of religious and political upheaval. Expect revealing backstories of the Protestant Reformation, the extravagance of Popes, the behaviour of art patrons, and the turmoil in the Church provoked by nudity.
