Textile embellishments have featured on garments throughout history. Used to adorn plain fabrics and showcase artisanal skills, many techniques from the past are still in use today. Inspired by quilting techniques used on the iconic Chanel handbag, designer Monisola Omotoso will teach you four different quilting techniques and how these can be used on fashion garments and accessories.
On day one of this weekend workshop you’ll try out the techniques, including diamond quilting, trapunto, and Moni’s own corded quilting technique in selection of fabrics and leather. On day two you’ll put your new skills into practice, creating a small bag designed by Moni using all four techniques and a variety of fabrics. All materials will be provided, suitable for those with some sewing experience.
