Academy, Market, Industry: Sculptural Models, Themes and Genres between Britain and Italy, c. 1728-1854

Papers will explore the evolution of established genres like busts, ideal sculptures, funerary and public monuments, along with copies and adaptations of ancient works. They will also examine how these models spread into decorative sculpture, including reliefs, medallions, and chimneypieces, as well as smaller artworks such as gems, cameos, ivories, and objects made from porcelain, earthenware, and new artificial 'stones’.

The conference is organised in collaboration with the University of Buckingham and the Fondazione Federico Zeri - Università di Bologna, and supported by the Henry Moore Foundation, Stuart Lochhead Sculpture and the Istituto Italiano di Cultura di Londra.
