Love it or loathe it, the automobile is a fact of modern life, an object of high desire, and a disturbing emblem of environmental degradation. Whether a £5million 1930 Blower Bentley or a Smart city car, it is also well established as a type of historical artefact with highly developed aesthetic qualities, comfortably displayed in museums and understood amongst examples of Ashbee silverware or Wedgwood vases. Created to complement the V&A’s exhibition, ‘Cars: Accelerating The Modern World', this ten-week short course will illuminate the exhibition’s themes and examine in detail significant examples of automotive design alongside the effects of motoring on the built environment, including roads, roadside architecture and the home.
• This course has a Half Term break on 18 February • Refreshments served • Price reductions available for Seniors (60+), jobseekers (ES40 holders) and registered disabled people
