Donatello: Sculpting the Renaissance
Supported by Rocco Forte
Get a feel for sculpture in this two-day workshop led by artist and educator Ruth Wheeler. Taking inspiration from sculptures in the collection, including works by Donatello, Ruth will guide you step-by-step to create your own carved mini-masterpiece.
Starting with clay, you’ll explore how to make shapes in two and three dimensions, refining your design as you go. Soapstone is a soft stone making it perfect for beginners. You will work with the stone, creating your own unique mini-sculpture, which could be inspired by details from works on display or take an abstract form, working with the shape of the stone itself. Ruth will show you how to use a variety of techniques and tools to help to sculpt, shape and polish your own hand-carved piece to take away.
