The Magic Thrills of Her

A premiere of a new performance-based lecture by Olivier Award-winning Showwoman and performance artist Marisa Carnesky, The Magic Thrills of Her explores the herstory of women in magic and speciality performance.  

 

Carnesky showcases archival materials of extraordinary performers from the early 20th Century in relation to her current work, reflecting on how stage illusions and extraordinary variety acts can take on new interpretations through a contemporary feminist lens, drawing reference to women's bodily experiences of change. 

 

The evening will be brought to thrilling life with special guest performers from Carnesky’s large scale new work Showwomen Sideshow Spectacular, featuring costumes designed by The Flying Stitches.
