Lunchtime Lecture: Tales of the Unexpected from the V&A's Medieval Collection photo

The V&A’s internationally renowned medieval collection encompasses an immense variety of objects ranging from monumental stone windows to minute golden brooches. This lecture will reveal some surprising secrets associated with treasures in the collection, including a comb that tidied the hair of an Emperor, a candlestick saved from destruction by a criminal and an incense boat discovered by men fishing for eels.

Dr Sally Dormer is director of the V&A Academy's Early Medieval course series. A specialist medieval art historian and lecturer, Sally holds an M.A. in Medieval Art History and Ph.D. on Medieval manuscript illumination from the Courtauld Institute, University of London. Sally teaches, or has taught, for the Art Fund, the Arts Society, Art Pursuits, Cox & Kings, Ciceroni, Swan Hellenic, and Gresham College, and was, until recently, Dean of European Studies, a study abroad semester for two universities in Tennessee, USA.
