Japan: Fashion and the Floating World- Online

One-day course

+44 (0)20 7942 2000
Join us online for a day where we discover how the colourful woodblock prints of the late eighteenth and nineteenth century played a vital role in Japan’s vibrant fashion culture. Ephemeral, inexpensive productions, these images allowed information about the latest trends to circulate and offered inspiration to those eager to emulate the famous actors, courtesans, geisha and other stylish men and women they depict. This study day explores aspects of Japanese fashion through the extensive V&A collection of woodblock prints. V&A experts Anna Jackson (Keeper of the Asia Department) and Masami Yamada (Curator of Japanese Art) will highlight new discoveries and key trends, followed by a demonstration of kimono dressing by Mamiko Sato and hair styling by Masaki Tanimura.

This study day will take place onsite at V&A South Kensington and will be live streamed via Microsoft Teams. To join us online, select 'book now' on this page. Alternatively, to book an onsite ticket for V&A South Kensington, please click here!

Those attending online will be sent information on how to attend the study day via Microsoft Teams, closer to the time

Please note, the study day will not be recorded
