The changes that took place in 20th century theatre were the greatest since the period of Shakespeare. There was a stream of great plays from Granville Barker to Terence Rattigan and Noel Coward and the great American playwrights Miller and Williams. Then came the championing of new writing at Royal Court and Stratford East in the 1950s and 1960s. Fringe Theatre also became an exciting and often controversial means of producing plays in the late 20th century. This course will look at the volatile and exciting history of 20th theatre and will include sessions on the art of the performers, practitioners and producers that forged the theatre we see today.
• This course has a Half Term break on 17 February • Refreshments served • Price reductions available for Seniors (60+), jobseekers (ES40 holders) and registered disabled people
