With its familiar globe shape and deep-brown glaze, the 'Brown Betty' teapot is a design classic, yet little is known about its history. Designer and ceramicist Ian McIntyre set out to uncover the story of this iconic pot, working with the oldest remaining manufacturer to recover lost design features and 're-engineer' the Brown Betty for the 21st century.
Ian McIntyre's Re-engineered Brown Betty is on display in the exhibition FOOD: Bigger than the Plate.
You can buy the Re-engineered Brown Betty teapot at the V&A Shop, South Kensington, or online at Cauldon Ceramics.
