Artist Colin Reid makes dramatic sculptures using one of the oldest methods of forming glass, kiln-casting, a process that dates back 4,000 years.
Inspired by nature, Colin often incorporates impressions of found objects and textures in his sculptures. Here he travels to the remote shorelines of a loch in the Scottish Highlands, to cast an impression from volcanic rock formations. Back in his studio, the impression is transformed and built up into a mould in which the glass is cast. The sculpture is finished using various cold-working processes, hand-held cutting and carving tools, creating a spectacular mirror-like finish which reflects the moulded surfaces.
