The workshop gave Sandra Grantham an opportunity to demonstrate the application of a misted consolidation system. The consolidation of friable materials presents a constant challenge to every conservation discipline.

The Novels of Charles Dickens; Bound to Last? The Structural Evolution of a Manuscript's Bindings

The National Art Library at the Victoria and Albert Museum holds the manuscripts of 12 of the novels by Charles Dickens. A condition survey carried out by the Book Conservation Section in 1991 identified these 38 volumes as amongst the most valuable items at greatest risk.

Non-Destructive Pigment Analysis Using Raman Microscopy

The portable Raman Microscope is an invaluable instrument for pigment analysis, capable of focusing through the cover glass of a miniature, such as the Heneage Jewel.
