The Saraswati Mahal Library is housed within the Royal Palace, Thanjavur. It contains an extremely important collection of manuscripts and books written in Sanskrit, Tamil, Telegu and English on all aspects of art, culture and literature. The Preservation Section of the Library carries out the conservation of a wide variety of materials, which include palm leaves, scroll paintings, western manuscripts and books.

Conservation of the 'May Primrose' wedding dress

The wedding dress of May Primrose became part of the Textile and Dress Collection of the Victoria and Albert Museum in 1990. It was made in 1885 for her marriage to Henry Littledale. It is an invaluable example of the height of mid-1880s fashion.

The Arundel Society - techniques in the art of copying

The Arundel Society (1848-97) saw the progress of art in England as being dependent on popular ttaste. It was established with the aim to promote a greater knowledge of art through the publication of literary works and reproductions.
