Shadow’s design took a year to get right

Shadow the Hedgehog, introduced in this movie, went through dozens of design revisions to stay true to his iconic game appearance while blending into the film’s style. His fur texture was modelled after real-life black panthers to give him an edge of realism. How cool is that?

Knuckles gets his own catchphrase

Knuckles, voiced by Idris Elba, introduces a hilarious new catchphrase in this movie: “Knuckle up!” It was improvised during a recording session and became a fan-favourite moment in the script. What fun catchphrase do you have? If you don’t, what would you make up?

Jim Carrey’s Robotnik reached new heights (literally)

Dr. Robotnik’s mech in this movie is the largest yet, towering over anything seen in the first two films. The mech was inspired by the Death Egg Robot from Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (the game), and its destructive scenes required nearly half the CGI budget!

Tails’ new gadgets are Easter egg heaven

Tails introduces several gadgets in this film, and eagle-eyed fans might notice they’re references to tools from various games, like the Electric Shield from Sonic 3 and his bomb launcher from Sonic Adventure. How many will you spot?

Green Hill Zone’s surprise cameo

Although the action takes Sonic far from Green Hill Zone, the iconic palm trees and checkerboard landscapes sneakily appear in a dream sequence.
