University of Dundee Mapstone Lecture

Thursday 13 March

V&A Dundee Director Leonie Bell delivers the annual Mapstone Lecture

This annual public lecture is named for Elisabeth Mapstone, who was an outstanding researcher and activist in social work and social policy, and the first female Professor at University of Dundee. The lecture honours her pioneering work and showcases the vital work that women continue to perform across diverse areas of endeavour.

Leonie Bell was born in Ninewells Hospital, Dundee in 1975, the year that Elizabeth Mapstone was appointed Professor of Policy Science and Social Policy at the University. Leonie left the region in 1993, not imagining she would ever return to live and work in the city. In this talk, Leonie will cover her personal and leadership journey away from Dundee and back again in 2020 to lead V&A Dundee.
