Tartan x Black History Month Tour

Wednesday, 25 October & Saturday, 28 October 2023

Explore Tartan from global perspectives in this exhibition tour.

Join us as we embrace tartan's roots and connections to the global majority: past, present, and possible.

Learn about Indian madras, tartan as a pattern of the diaspora, and as a psychological tool of control during the enslavement of peoples across the globe.

Discover contemporary designers reshaping tartan's narrative such as Nicholas Daley, Olubiyi Thomas and Grace Wales Bonner who use the textile to redefine complex thinking around identity and Scottish heritage.

Meet in the upper foyer by the Hillman Imp Car. We recommend arriving 10 minutes before the start time.

This event is in partnership with the Coalition for Racial Equality and Rights (CRER) as part of Black History Month Scotland 2023.
