From Dundee Street songs to Michael Marra, experience the songs stitched into the fabric of the city in The Dundee Tapestries' temporary new home in Gallery 1.
About the performers:
Aileen Carr
Aileen comes from a musical Perthshire family and has been singing for as long as she can remember. She has been a regular singer on the lively British Folksong scene from the early 70’s onwards performing at home and abroad either as a solo singer, with the bands Lang Johnny More and Coelbeg, with the popular a Capella group Palaver and more recently with Barbara Dymock and Janice Reavell as part of the a Capella group Choras. She is a former chair of the Traditional Music and Song Association of Scotland and was inducted into the Traditional Music Hall of Fame in 2023.
Barbara Dymock & Christopher Marra
Barbara and Christopher are a pair with many and varied musical collaborations behind them and a vast experience of performing.Barbara learned songs as a child from her Fife grandparents, but made her first foray into performing aged 19 with the newly-formed Ceolbeg and a cappella trio Fair Game.
After a long silent break to raise a family and pursue a medical career, she returned to singing. She has 2 solo albums: Hilbert’s Hotel and Leaf an’ Thorn, and appeared on Malinky’s 2019 album Handsel.
Chris has been a musician since his teens, working in many distinct fields from bighair rock to sophisticated pop with Danny Wilson via London’s Theatreland. The majority of his time was spent recording and performing with his brother Michael Marra, producing albums for Michael and the legendary Saint Andrew.
In 2016 Chris produced and played on Barbara’s well-received album: “Leaf an’ Thorn”.
Sheena Wellington
Dundonian SHEENA WELLINGTON is an internationally renowned traditional singer whose repertoire covers everything from Burns to ballads to the best of contemporary songwriting.
She has toured extensively across Europe, North America, Asia and North Africa has made numerous radio and television appearances, and had the honour of singing at the Opening of the Scottish Parliament in 1999.
Honours bestowed on her for her work include Doctorates from the Universities of St Andrews and Dundee and the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, The Heritage Society of Scotland’s award for her outstanding contribution to Scotland's culture, the UK-wide Association of Speakers Clubs Speaker of the Year award and the coveted Herald Archangel for her Edinburgh International Festival’s series of traditional song programmes “Work, Sex and Drink”.
She is a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries of Scotland and an Honorary Life Member and Patron of the Traditional Music and Song Association of Scotland (TMSA),
In November 2009 she was installed in the Scottish Traditional Music Hall of Fame.
Lynne Campbell
Singer and storyteller Lynne loves nothing more than to share Scots and traditional songs of Dundee and Angus, with a bit of Burns and sea shanties thrown in for good measure! Singing since she was wee, and performing regularly since her debut solo Edinburgh Fringe show Songs and Stories of Scotland in 2016, Lynne has written and performed in subsequent Fringe shows First Degree Burns and Sexy as Folk, shared songs at events for the International Storytelling Festival and International Book Festivals, and has appeared as a Hogmanay Hero on STV's New Year programme, demonstrating how to dress a herring in the Dundonian style to the nation. Lynne was winner of the TMSA Elphinstone Cup for freestyle singing in 2024.
