Designing Resilience with Dundee Civic Trust
Saturday 22 March
An invitation to discuss the environmental threats Dundee faces with a panel of experts and Dundee Civic Trust
Dundee, forever on the edge in both location and spirit, is faced with an immediate threat - climate breakdown. What lies ahead when our famed river rises? How will we meet the multi-challenge of increased storms, floods and droughts with extreme temperature swings in our neighbourhoods? Are we equipped as a group and landscape to meet these challenges?
Dundee Civic Trust and the panel of experts invite you to an open discussion to explore and question the roles design, business, science and education play in a community's resilience.
Joining the event to present their work are:
Professor Rob Duck, University of Dundee, is a geologist specialising in changing coastlines, particularly the Tay Estuary, and is author of the book This Shrinking Land: Climate Change and Britain's Coasts.
Chris Van Der Kuyl, chairperson at 4J studios and Dundee's multi-discplinary studio Water's Edge explores how entrepreneurs can build resilience into their businesses
UK National STEM Ambassador, Senior Lecturer in Environmental Science at Abertay University and one of ICE's Top 50 Women in Engineering, Dr Rebecca Wade's research focuses on nature-based solutions to address climate and societal challenges.
Architect and director at Nicoll Russell Design Studios, Willie Watt looks to how we can begin to make Dundee's buildings more resilient.
