A Fragile Correspondence: Future Materials Table

Saturday 22 March

Materials have the power to shape the future of sustainable design

First presented in 2024 as part of AdesignStorie's The House of Wellbeing — an immersive installation commissioned by Dundee Design Festival that explored biophilic and regenerative design — The Future Materials Table features 51 examples of biomaterials from a range of artists and designers. Complementing them are additional climate-conscious samples of emerging approaches to sustainable interior design from AdesignStorie’s material library.

Rooted in the principles of biophilic design, this display explores how nature-inspired materials such as oyster shell ceramics, kombucha leather, and hemp bioplastics can be used to form sustainable spaces that work in harmony with the surrounding landscape. Engage with the loose samples, feel their textures, and create your own mood board to envision your sustainable home.

Dundee Design Festival is a regular event devised and delivered by UNESCO City of Design Dundee. The 2024 edition was curated by Stacey Hunter of Local Heroes.
