Lorraine Kelly visits V&A Dundee construction site

TV star and proud Dundonian Lorraine Kelly visited the construction site of V&A Museum of Design Dundee at the weekend to see the progress on creating the new museum.

Lorraine met some of the team from BAM Construction who are building V&A Dundee, as well as getting an update on the project from Philip Long, Director of V&A Dundee.

She walked along the cofferdam which has been built out into the River Tay, allowing V&A Dundee to reach into the river, walked through the location of the museum’s entrance into the main hall, and climbed to the roof to see the scale of the whole building and how it links Dundee to the river.

Lorraine Kelly said: "The progress on building V&A Dundee is incredible, from the beautiful curving walls to walking through the entrance into the huge main hall. The team of builders and engineers are doing an amazing job and should be really proud of themselves.

"Standing on the roof of V&A Dundee is very, very exciting. You can see just how big the museum is, but also how it is connecting Dundee back to the river and opening up our city to the water once again.

"Dundee is an exciting, energetic city with a real creative buzz. I'm very proud to see V&A Dundee ‎taking shape and can't wait for 2018 to see all the exhibitions, pop-up shows, and watch the sun set over the Tay with a glass of wine from the restaurant terrace!"

V&A Dundee will be the first V&A museum anywhere in the world outside London, with a mission to enrich lives through inspiring people and promoting their understanding of design.

V&A Dundee is at the heart of Dundee’s waterfront regeneration, a £1 billion, 30-year masterplan to design an open, inclusive city of the future.

The new museum is the first in the UK by Kengo Kuma, the renowned architect responsible for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic stadium, and will open in 2018.
