Festive gift range revealed for 2021

With the festive season fast approaching, V&A Dundee announces its 2021 Christmas gift collection featuring an array of unique and sustainable design products.

For the first time, the festive collection from Scotland’s design museum will be available to shop online, inviting people from near and far to indulge in great design from Scotland and around the world. This curated collection offers the perfect selection of gifts for all ages, supporting independent Scottish designers.

This year, the collection places an emphasis on the joy of entertaining. Fusing strong design with practicality, the selected lifestyle goods make ideal presents for any host. Christmas shoppers can expect stylish homeware, statement jewellery, as well as contemporary, cosy wearables for the winter months.

The range features a special festive edit from Stacey Hunter of curatorial studio Local Heroes, showcasing a joyful mix of contemporary work from Scottish-based talent to support and celebrate the Scottish design community.

Textile designer G Hickey Design, whose timeless interior pieces are made in small batches to ensure as little waste as possible, has designed a limited-edition table runner and napkins exclusively for V&A Dundee. Hosts can also complement their table layouts with a selection of cast concrete candle holders and a candle-making kit, handmade by Scottish contemporary craft brand Squid Ink Studio.

As conscious gifting becomes a greater priority, the festive collection features a range of eco-friendly and ethically sourced products, including Jesmonite-cast coasters made from recycled coffee grounds by Dundee designer Woolly Jones. These sustainable products will also complement the online shop’s accessories section, featuring unique Jesmonite necklaces, earrings and brooches. The Terrazzo bauble kit gives you an excuse to be crafty with a conscience and dress your tree in two Terrazzo patterns.

In addition, chocolate aficionados will be delighted by the organic, ethically sourced chocolate bars by chocolatiers Ocelot. Based in Edinburgh, Ocelot has collaborated with a pioneering women’s collective in eastern Congo to produce rare Amelonado cocoa beans, available in bars such as Femme, Violet Milk and Buckwheat, in beautifully designed packaging.

There is a boutique collection of colourful and unique garments and accessories to surprise the fashion lover in your life. Contemporary knitwear designer Jo-AMI brings comfort to any outfit with the 100% lambswool Bella Beanie and collection of stylish socks. The Scottish Design Pick and Mix silk scarf features illustrations of iconic Scottish design objects set against a navy backdrop and is a striking piece.

Creatives of all ages will be inspired by range of DIY kits and games such as Make your own Lochness Monster featuring Aberdeenshire tartan designed by Donna Wilson. Games like Balancing Cactus provide hours of problem-solving fun!

Grant Herron from V&A Dundee’s retail team said: “It has been wonderful to showcase such a breadth of emerging and established design talent. We are fortunate to partner with some truly visionary designers and are so proud to platform their creativity this Christmas.

“Our selection of gifts capture the spirit of togetherness, from DIY kits to board games. We hope these festive favourites help make this Christmas just that little bit more magical.”

Stacey Hunter from Local Heroes said: “It has been a bright and beautiful year of design-filled fun working alongside V&A Dundee on our collaborative project Daytrippers! for summer, and on a festive edit for winter.

“We have selected a variety of gifts from stocking fillers to silk scarves. What they all have in common is that they support and celebrate our outstanding Scottish design community. We hope you enjoy browsing our selection as much as we enjoyed putting it together!”
