Designers in Residence: Assemble

Our new Designers in Residence are Assemble, a multi-disciplinary collective working across architecture, design and art. From neighbourhoods and buildings to products and furniture their practice places particular emphasis on the processes through which projects are developed and realised.

Over their six-month residency, they will work with us, Dundee's Central Library and a group of local people.

Inspired by historic architecture in Dundee, Assemble will explore the relationship between contemporary production techniques and traditional building crafts. Through a series of workshops, the group will produce a new interior room inspired by local architecture.

The evolving piece of work will take shape in our galleries in an exhibition called 'Making Room'. Later in the year, it will be moved to the Central Library. Here it will function as an area for digital learning and making for the city. Our Residency Studio currently showcases a range of Assemble's previous projects.

A dynamic public programme of talks, events and workshops will run throughout the Making Room project, which you can find in our What's On

Self-Guided walks

A series of curated, self-guided public walks have been developed along side the project. These will invite you to rediscover Dundee from a multitude of perspectives and explore the city’s past, present and future. New walks will be added to the map below throughout the project:

Following the points in order, this walk is around 13km and should take about 3 hours depending on your walking speed. This walk was curated by service users at Dundee International Women’s Centre (DIWC) in sessions facilitated by Laura Darling. With thanks to Glasgow Women’s Library for their support.

Dundee International Women’s Centre was established in 1969 as a grassroots women’s organisation dedicated to supporting migrant families in its community.
