Design donation for learners at V&A Dundee

LD Seating, the UK and Ireland arm of a leading international furniture company, has donated a range of designer Funghi stools to be used in V&A Dundee’s Thomson Learning Centre.

The Dundee-based company, run by local entrepreneur Andy Stewart, gave 12 stools of different sizes and colours to be used in the museum’s learning studios and family workshops.

The Funghi stools were designed by Filip Streit, an industrial designer who also teaches product design at the Czech Technical University in Prague.

They are also now available to buy from V&A Dundee’s shop, both in the museum and online.

Joanna Mawdsley, Head of Learning at V&A Dundee, said: “This generous donation will really enhance our learning studios. These are currently used for a wide range of design-led learning and exploration, from early years and family workshops to school sessions, and as an open meeting space for community use.

“We’re delighted to receive this gift from local entrepreneur Andy Stewart, helping us bring the best of design to every visitor to V&A Dundee.”

Andy Stewart of LD Seating said: “As a Dundee-based company which works all over UK it was a privilege to help the Learning team at V&A Dundee with some new stools for the learning centre. Funghi was the ideal product to make the spaces more dynamic and fun for the learners and staff alike.

“We are very proud to continue our partnership with V&A Dundee and certainly are proud ambassadors as we travel the county promoting our design-led products.”

The Funghi stools are inspired by nature and designed to be used in social spaces where they can be easily moved around.

The UK company works in partnership with LD Seating global, a second-generation family business based in the Czech Republic which has 65 collections and over 400 product designs.
