Meet the team

The Design and Innovation Team is made up of staff at V&A Dundee in collaboration with industry experts. Their cumulative experience offers course participants the very best in Design Thinking.

Lynne

Lynne Martin, Strategic Lead, V&A Dundee

Before joining V&A Dundee, Lynne attended the Design Thinking Accelerator in 2020 while working in economic development, and has since dedicated her working life to helping others experience what she describes as ‘the most eye-opening three days’ of her career. She believes in the power of design to bring people together to solve the complex problems we face as citizens of the 21st Century, and is excited about the positive impact she knows the Accelerator can make on organisations, and the people who work there.

Lee Johnstone, Designer and Programme Manager, V&A Dundee

As Design and Innovation’s in-house design thinker, Lee designs and delivers workshops that support colleagues across V&A Dundee and our external partners. With a Bachelors in Design and Masters in Design for Business, She is an expert visual communicator and makes complex ideas easy to understand through her simple and engaging illustrations. As programme manager she brings a designer's empathy and attention to detail that means your experience with us will be brilliant.

Michelle

Michelle Quadrelli, Managing Director, Scott & Fyffe Ltd

Michelle is a forward-thinking Innovator with a passion for design and its use within business to drive transformation and success. She is currently Managing Director at Scott & Fyfe Ltd, a long-established materials technology company that has transformed from a traditional industrial textile manufacturer to an award-winning, employee-owned, global enterprise with innovation at its core. Michelle drives this vision by promoting design-led approaches and fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration and empowerment. Having personally experienced the transformative power of design in real-world scenarios, Michelle is deeply committed to inspiring others to embrace design for positive change.

Stevie

Stevie McGowan, Design and Innovation Lead, Centre for Civic Innovation

Stevie leads The Centre for Civic Innovation, a pioneering citizen-centred design team within Glasgow City Council. Their mission is to embed design in local government to tackle social inequality and the climate crisis. He understands what it takes to innovate within the public sector, and his award-winning team spearhead citizen-focused projects at Glasgow City Council, earning global recognition from Bloomberg Philanthropies and Service Design Network. Stevie has worked in several lead roles across local government with a track record of developing teams that deliver people focussed solutions that improve lives. He believes passionately that design can be used as a driver for change, empowering us to co-create a better world for people and planet.

Catherine

Catherine Docherty, Managing Director, Journey Associates

Catherine is a design strategist, facilitator, and researcher with extensive experience in the fields of design and innovation for over 25 years. She has directed and delivered leading-edge national and international programmes supporting person-centred, design-led innovation and organisational change in private, public and third-sector organisations. Projects span a range of sectors including broadcast, construction, telecare, homelessness, mental health and social care among others. Deeply passionate about enabling leaders to develop meaningful change through new strategies, service and products, Catherine brings a unique combination of academic rigour, creativity, and business acumen to each project. Catherine is co-creator of V&A Dundee’s Design Thinking Accelerator.

Jonathan Ball

Jonathan Ball, Director, Designmine Ltd

Jonathan’s career spans product and service design, design management and design strategy across a range of sectors. This breadth of experience means he understands the challenges of taking an idea from design stage, right up to delivery of the final product or service, as well as making him well-placed to help organisations of all types work with design to deliver on their ambitions. Jonathan has designed products ranging from toys to toilet seats, street furniture to giftware, all of which thrived in the marketplace. He has worked with LUMA Institute, BBC, NHS, Network Rail and Design Council. The platform for of all of Jonathan’s work combines Design Thinking techniques with proven business strategy and management methodologies, and he is co-creator of V&A Dundee’s Design Thinking Accelerator.
