Nicky Haslam and Stephen Bayley are two of London’s most artful taste obsessives. Haslam is an interior designer, socialite, flaneur, author and cabaret singer who says coloured fireworks are “common”. Bayley is the original “design guru” whose 1991 classic 'Taste: The Secret Meaning of Things' has just been reissued in an extensively revised second edition. They will be staging an amusing argument just yards away from Henry Cole’s original “chamber of horrors”, itself a popular lesson in taste that established the V&A’s own campaigning principles.
